The V-Monologues

V, in this case, being "Veterinary."

I was betrayed. Again. The lady wins back my trust and then she pulls the "Fancy Feast in the Carrier" scam again. And, again, I fall for it.

A few months ago she took me to vet because I was having...er..."anal gland" problems. I had to have one of them "expressed." I won't go into details; I'll just leave it to your imagination. Since then, the lady puts a warm compress in that "area" if I seem to be having problems. That worked pretty well until a few days ago when I started having problems again and then the lady saw some blood in my urine so she brought me immediately to the vet's office. I cannot be handled in any way shape or form by any veterinary personnel because I get too scared, so they have to put a plastic bag around my carrier and "gas" me until I fall asleep. When I was asleep, they took x-rays of my abdomen, drew blood (they shaved my neck!!) for a health profile, a complete blood count, and a thyroid test. They did a urinalysis.

Turns out that I have some "thickening" of my intestinal wall which is causing problems. This can make my poops "not so good", which then causes the anal glands not to work properly. I may have what is called "Inflammatory Bowel Disease" (not to be confused with "Irritable Bowel Syndrome.") A cascade of other problems can be caused by this. Also, my urinalysis showed I have some sort of infection, so I have to take liquid antibiotics (oh, the lady will have a few tales to tell about that). Also, my diet has been too "rich" (so much for that expensive, grain-free food the lady bought for me). I'm now on a special "metabolic diet."

I am considered an "elderly" cat. The lady does not know my exact age. She knows when she first met me in late 2001, I was a full grown cat. So, that makes me at least thirteen years old. The lady says she is going to write to the person who was my caretaker way back in 2001 (the lady has only been my "lady" since 2007) to see if she can find out exactly how old I am.

Anyway, I am doing fine except for the fact that I am acting very afraid of the lady because she has forced me to take medicine twice already. The first time, I didn't know what was going on when she touched my head. Then, she tilted it back, opened my mouth and squirted some stuff in it. I ran and hid under the bed for three hours. Then, yesterday, when she touched my head I tried to squirm away, but she was able to get the medicine in. I may have to put the bitey on her if she tries again. I know she feels bad and she keeps telling me that it is for my own good and will help make me feel better. All I know is that I get very frightened and my instinct is to "fight" (and then, "flight.")

Please keep me in your thoughts and purrs.

Below are some photos of me trying to get the disgusting "vet" smell off of my handsome self.

You can see where they shaved my neck. Barbarians!

Mr Black, we share your pain. None of us likes the Vet,especially Treasure who is super scared!
He once tries to climb the watts at the Vets office! He is also hard to medicate as anytime Mom goes near him he takes off. Even if she only wants to pat him.
We purr you will be OK and the Vet can help you.

What a drag, Mr. Black! Maybe you had a very very bad experience when you were just a baby that you just can't get past? I don't know; I can only empathize because I too hate getting in that stupid troll box. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon.

Oh, and after having suffered with crappy photos on blogger *again* and my mom spending hours in frustration trying to find a fix for this cr*p, she decided to repost .png photos. That seems to have worked (at least with yesterday's post). Who knows what evil google has done now, but they seem to be (re)compressing .jpg files when the whim strikes. So fie right on them, we're sticking with .pngs. Tell your mom to try that format and let's get our black back!

Ouch! Nicki shares your pain in this case, as he goes every 3 months to have his anal glands expressed. Unfortunately for him and for the human too.

Lots of purrs to you...and to your human--she's only doing the best for you, but we know it's hard (read impossible) to understand.

Oh Mr. Black, we're sorry to hear you've been having such problems. I had anal glands problems too, but then it went away!
They can give you a shot of antibiotics that's good for 2 weeks, so you don't have to worry about taking them every day.
Our Mommy knows some good tricks for giving pills very easily, and it's easier than liquids. Contact us if you need details :)
We're purring for your quick recovery!

Oh you poor baby! I had to have my anal glands expressed last year due to complications from Prednisonol. Mom gives me 100% canned pumpkin now and that really helps to keep everything "moving"....would that maybe work for you?
Hoping you feel better soon!
Love, Cody (and Mom too)

Mr. Black, we feel your pain. First of all, that gland business is very unpleasant. Top that off with getting squirty medicine forced on you, and we have catty upset. Some medicine can be compounded with fish flavor for cats, and squirted directly on food - but that doesn't apply for ALL medicine.

We are sending lots and lots of purrs for you to feel better, Buddy. We are al pretty well behaved at the vet's but #1's first cat, Ikkyu, also had to be gassed before any vet could handle him, except for Dr. C who could do it! Dr. C is the best!

Purrs,

I feel your pain Mr Black. I don't like the evil vet either and slink around on my belly and hiss when I have to see him. When he does anything to me I wrap myself into the tightest little ball just like a coiled spring. Try to take your medicine, your mum is trying to make you feel better. Sending my purrs for you.

OMC, King Mr. Black! I had an anal gland problem about a year ago--and now I am sure I have another and the Human is planning to cart me off at the beginning of the week. Oh NOOOOOOO! I am JUST Like YOU!!! I have to be gassed because I will NOT let anyone touch me there. Hang in there Buddy! I'll be joining you soon. Purrrrrrrrrs

shocking, Mr. Black. I would suggest two or three bitey's. you have to get the message across. good luck wif those glands. and what is it wif humans that makes them so interested in our intestines? for this reason alone, I have neva trusted them.

Dear Mr. Black,
Remember us? We have been gone a long time but are now checking in with friends. So sorry to hear you have been poorly. Tiger has had some "issues" as well, that have included squirting meds in the mouth. Like you, he was not at all pleased with the procedure. Healing purrs for you and purrs for your mom too.
